A new type of workout is coming to the Niles Buchanan YMCA. It's called the Barre Workout and it's a combination of Ballet, Yoga and Pilate’s. This 60 minute fitness class with heavy repetition, light weights, small movement and deep stretching benefits muscle tone, improved flexibility, better posture, and a change in your fitness routine.

Dribble, Shoot! Come be apart of our exciting youth basketball season. Do you enjoy the roar of the crowd after a last second shot was made??? Do you like putting the pressure on with a full court press??? If so YMCA Basketball may be the sport for you. Come be a part of a tradition only the YMCA can provide. Kids learning to play basketball at the Y, respect and support their teammates, and appreciate diversity while increasing self-esteem and improving social skills, strengthening our community.

The warm weather made it a great day to get some exercise before sitting down to Thanksgiving Dinner. The 31st Annual Thanksgiving Run had a record 2444 participants. Many families and friends spent their holiday being healthy while raising money for a critical social service in our Niles community. We had a great time and we hope you did to. Every Thanksgiving, hundreds of runners gather in Niles to run in the Thanksgiving Day Run in support of the Y's financial assistance fund. Packet pick up and Registration continues today 1:00 - 9:00 pm and starts tomorrow at 6:30 am right up to race time. Remember the 10K race starts at 8:00 am (this is different from last year) and 9:15 for 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run.

You probably already know about the 31st annual Niles-Buchanan YMCA Thanksgiving Day Run on Thursday November 22nd. BUT did you know that this event is expected to raise $25,000 in funds to support Y scholarships? This money ensures that everyone who needs the Y has the opportunity join. We strive to make every effort to guarantee no one is turned away due to an inability to pay. However, money is not the only way you can help. We are searching for special individuals who'd be willing to volunteer a few hours of their time to help others.

Now through Thursday, November 8th, the Y will be collecting items for the Blue Star Mothers of America #177 who will be packing boxes to send to our troops. The Blue Star Mothers of America is a non-profit organization comprised of woman whose children are in the United States Armed Forces or who has served in the United States Armed Forces or had an honorable discharge.
