Welcome to the

Niles-Buchanan YMCA

The Niles-Buchanan YMCA strengthens the foundations of our community through well-being and fitness, camps, swim, sports and play, and other activities for people of all ages, incomes and abilities. We’re more than just a place to work out. At the Y, we help build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all with the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility at the heart of everything we do.

With a commitment to nurturing youth development, promoting healthy living, and fostering a sense of social responsibility, the Y ensures that every individual has access to the essentials needed to learn, grow and thrive.

Dieting around the holidays? Bah, humbug! Eating well during holiday season is a bit like walking up a down escalator while everyone else is going down the right way and they're gorging on delicious-looking goodies at the same time. This recipe shared by Lauretta Mann will help you stay the course without missing all the fun.

Now through Thursday, November 8th, the Y will be collecting items for the Blue Star Mothers of America #177 who will be packing boxes to send to our troops. The Blue Star Mothers of America is a non-profit organization comprised of woman whose children are in the United States Armed Forces or who has served in the United States Armed Forces or had an honorable discharge.

Since January of this year we have offered the newest, and hottest racket sport that has swept the nation, and the world. This fast moving and downright addictive game, according to local players, is fun for all ages and skill levels. “It’s crazy fun,” says Andrew Pfeifer, YMCA member from Berrien Center. Pfeifer describes himself as a former golf junkie. “I’d rather be playing Pickleball than golf,” says Pfeifer. “A fellow golfer will know that really says something.”

More than 230 people enjoyed the sunshine and fun at the Niles-Buchanan YMCA’s second annual Fall Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 27th. Denise Peters, Director of Health and Fitness at the Y and event organizer, enjoyed working on the event. “It was great seeing families enjoy spending time together and laughing and doing old fashioned things like games and hayrides. The community support from local business like Jimmy John’s and United Federal Credit made it all possible.”

There's nothing like good old fashioned competition to bring out the creative juices. That's exactly what happened last week when our Niles-Buchanan YMCA Departments of Preschool, Member Service Desk, Fitness, Maintenance and Babysitting had fun creating scarecrows using various themes. Y Staff, volunteers & members voted on their favorite scarecrow and the results are in!

The Niles-Buchanan YMCA in our 63rd year of service to the community, recently announced our newest addition to our leadership team. Our Health & Fitness department is now under new leadership. Who is it? We think you'll recognize this familiar face. Read more to find out...

Mark October 27th on your calendar for our YMCA Fall Harvest Festival. During the Festival expect a flash mob that will be dancing to the song 'Monster Mash'. If you would like to take part in the mob just follow the easy dance steps in this video. Have fun!
