Niles Buchanan YMCA

For Youth Development
For Healthy Living
For Social Development

Welcome to the

Niles-Buchanan YMCA

The Niles-Buchanan YMCA strengthens the foundations of our community through well-being and fitness, camps, swim, sports and play, and other activities for people of all ages, incomes and abilities. We’re more than just a place to work out. At the Y, we help build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all with the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility at the heart of everything we do.

With a commitment to nurturing youth development, promoting healthy living, and fostering a sense of social responsibility, the Y ensures that every individual has access to the essentials needed to learn, grow and thrive.

And who says adults don't have fun at the Y too? Our Competitive & Mid-Level Adult Volleyball League is kicking off this October! It's designed for men and women who want to have fun in the camaraderie of others while getting an excellent workout. So what are you waiting for? Get your family and friends together for an exciting season of volleyball and great fun!

Hey Parents! Mark this on your calendars. Our Youth Volleyball and Basketball Leagues will be taking registration at the end of the month and you'll want to make sure and get your kids signed up before the teams fill up! Our Y leagues encourage and promote healthy and strong kids, families and communities by placing a priority on family involvement, healthy competition rather than rivalry, the value of participation over winning, team building as well as individual development, a positive self-image and a sense of fair play and mutual respect for others!

Our Y recently received a very special guest. Michigan State Senator John Proos visited our Niles-Buchanan YMCA for a tour and a chat with our staff and Y members. It wasn't too long after meeting that we realized we shared many of the same concerns for our community whether it be youth development, healthy living or social responsibility.

On September 24th join us in celebrating Family Day! Family Day - Family dinner - is a national movement to inform parents that the parental engagement fostered during frequent family dinners is an effective tool to help keep America's kids substance free. Y-USA and CASA are encouraging all families to participate in order to provide a perfect opportunity to deepen relationships and improve their well-being.

Our Main Pool will be closed for maintenance and painting from August 26 - September 9, 2012. Our Warm Water Therapy Pool will remain open during this time. Please see our Pool Schedule or check with our Member Service Staff for Adult and Family times. We apologize for any inconvenience or disruption to your wellness routine. However we are confident that you will appreciate the work we will do, and that our pool will be more enjoyable. Thank you for your understanding!

Exercise provides more than just the basic physical benefits that come to mind when you hear the word “EXERCISE” mentioned. When people begin to engage in exercise, and experience the benefits of exercise, they are more likely to be motivated to continue  exercise to receive the benefits it provides to mental, social, and physical health.

Congratulations to Melody Austin, the Niles-Buchanan Employee of the Month for June!  Melody, or "Arkansas," as many of us have nicknamed her in reference to her home state, is part of our fantastic housekeeping staff.  She works primarily in the mornings, and has built many strong relationships with regular morning members, and they love her.

Our Summer 2012 Program Guide is now available online for you to download/or print.  Be sure to check it out for program descriptions, hours, fees and other helpful information when choosing what Y program best meets the needs of your child. Download our Summer 2012 Program Guide here.

Here at the Y, we have several employees that perform multiple jobs in different departments.  There aren't many that have more jobs than our May Employee of the Month, Brenda Horn.  Brenda has worked for the Niles-Buchanan YMCA for several years now, and during that time she has really expanded her role(s) here, which involve working with kids.
