Now through Thursday, November 8th, the Y will be collecting items for the Blue Star Mothers of America #177 who will be packing boxes to send to our troops. The Blue Star Mothers of America is a non-profit organization comprised of woman whose children are in the United States Armed Forces or who has served in the United States Armed Forces or had an honorable discharge.
Since 1942 the Blue Star Mothers continue to concentrate on providing emotional support to its members, doing volunteer work with veterans in general and veterans’ hospitals in particular, and generally fostering a sense of patriotism and respect for members of the Armed Forces. In addition, they work in physical and emotional rehabilitation, help with medical supplies, transportation, food, clothing and friendship, gratitude and love.
Help our Y support our troops by giving to our local Blue Star Mothers of America chapter.
Needed items include:
Edibles: individual snack, candy, beef jerky, slim jims, small cans of fruit and soup in pop top cans, pop tarts, drink mixes for bottled water, tuna pouches, cereal & granola bars, cheese & cracker snacks, peanut butter squeeze tubes, nuts of all kinds, sunflower seeds, gum, mints, pringles, dried fruit, microwave popcorn, hot coca, corn nuts, combos, etc.Hygienic/Personal: band aids, hand lotion, shaving cream in squeeze tubes, toothbrushes, toothpaste, cap stick, disposable razors, nail clippers, emery boards, non-alcoholic wipes, zip lock bags, calendars, sunscreen, white cotton socks, foot & body powder, toilet paper, individual size tissues, combs, sticky fly strips, hand sanitizer, contact solution, hand & foot warmers, eye drops, insect repellent wipes, multi vitamins, Q-tips, female products, etc.
Entertainment: batteries, playing cards, comics from the paper, Frisbees, puzzle books, cd’s bubbles, disposable cameras, ink pens, checkers, dominos, unsigned greeting cards that the soldiers can send back to loved ones in the USA, comic books, etc.
