Thanksgiving Day Run
2015 Annual Thanksgiving Day Run
For 34 years the Niles-Buchanan YMCA has hosted a Thanksgiving Day Run in the community. It has become a tradition for many people who live or visit the Niles-Buchanan area at Thanksgiving. Last year, 2,185 people from 34 states participated in the 10k Run, 5k Run/Walk, or the Kids 1 Mile Fun Run.
Proceeds from the Thanksgiving Day Run support the Strong Kids Campaign which provides financial support to families through membership scholarships. In 2014, with the generous support of the community, we provided $113,676 in membership scholarships to over 800 individuals/families. The Strong Kids Campaign opens the door for many families and youth in our community who might not otherwise have access to a Y membership or programming due to financial hardships.
“We have an amazing opportunity to make a difference in our community. It might be something as simple as teaching a child how to swim, or help someone find a path to a healthier lifestyle, or helping a teenager gain self confidence. Your generous donation helps the Niles-Buchanan Y ensure the youth and families in our communities have access to programs that promote healthier and more productive lives, regardless of their background or financial situation. Last year, funds from the Strong Kids Campaign supported programs to over 1,700 children and families in the Niles-Buchanan community.”

Looking for a volunteer opportunity? This race would not be possible without the support of hundreds of volunteers. The Niles-Buchanan YMCA is still looking for people to work various positions along the race route including human directional to encourage and direct the walkers/runners; and water/first aide station attendants. Groups and families are welcome to volunteer together Thanksgiving Day morning.
